Problem with trade-ins is my Guilds are worth more to me than they are to a dealer.
There's two sides to that coin. Makes buying a used Guild a bargain, however, hurts you if you're trading in a Guild for another guitar.
So, the best course of action is to keep the Guild and simply buy another one outright. However, since my funds are extremely tight right now, that is not an option for me.
That said, I dropped off my recently purchased '81 D25 at my local luthier for a setup. The shop has a pretty good inventory of new Guilds, Gibsons and Martins. Spend an hour playing some 20 guitars. I REALLY want a Martin D18GE. All I can say is WOW..... However, unless I can sell my wife's Civic to pay for it (she can walk, no?), it remains an elusive dream. Went home and still enjoyed my Tacoma D50 with the Martin SP strings.......
