<veer - although we knew that>We have a landline, and I've noticed that speaker reproduction doesn't work nearly as well for the listener as actual soundwaves from a guitar, acoustic guitar sounds much better over the telephone, comes through better.
For many measures of audio quality using a landline and associated equipment produces a higher quality result than a cell phone - at least it did a decade ago when there were more landlines and fewer high quality cell phones. IIRC (which I often don't) quality was defined and measured using tools and techniques usually applied to speakers and amplifiers of high fidelity gear. The width of the frequency response, absence of any digital to and from analog conversions and better speakers and mics in the handset were some of the reasons landlines did better. But neither makes "hold music" sound any better.
