are your guitars in stands, hooks or cases?

Good hangers keep them handy and out of harm's reach.

It's really not rocket surgery, but just a matter of choice, factoring in individual lifestyles, wants/needs, and number of grandkids!

We have five,
Joe

Cases, cases, cases. Too much risk for me to leave out, mostly my clumsiness crashing around the place. Even gigbags leave me worried.

Harmony H-173 bought in 1960 (retired), Alvarez AC60S 2008, Eastman AC320ce 2008 "Hybrid", Guild GAD-JF30E(blonde) 2008, Guild JF55 1997, Guild D25M 1974, Martin Grand J35E 2009, Martin D12-20 1970

So, if you put them on nice hangers on the wall, are they still at risk?

Curious Joe

**I'd be happy to send you a couple of hangers to get you started.

Well tonight the case came in for the A500. Its actually a white falcon case, new but not guild. Seems that its very difficult to get a new Guild case...in fact I hear new guitars too. Something about the production crews are now working on Fender guitars... At least for the time....

But yup, this guitar that was in a smelly case for 40 years is now back in a safe hard case, without the bad odors...
All is well in the world again

The Guilds I got from Joe are neighbors in this room; D25 and D15. The others are hanging around the house as well. But looking at all the other pics you all have shared, I think I need to showcase my wall hangings a bit better.

What I was told by the shop owner, who sells the Guild line, is that if you "order" a guitar today, you will most likely have to wait a lot longer than usual because Fender is now working on catching on its back orders of "Fender" guitars.

And to satisfy that demand, they have pulled most of the production line folks who were making Guild, to make Fender...until they get caught up.

He has inside contacts to get custom orders but that has been greatly pushed behind due to the above.

As for the case, and this seems to be true for Gibson as well, manufacturers aren't selling cases unless they come with the guitar.

I don't know any of this to be fact, but I do have to believe this individual. I've been getting guitars and gear from his shop for over 30 years. He's never lead me wrong in the past and if he can find what I seek, he finds it.

Now I could probably have found a case on ebay, but I wanted brand new.
Had the guitar appraised for insurance purposes too, it needed a case....
Calling the insurance company now to get coverage.... Maybe I can get fleet insurance??? The rate I'm going, I'm gonna need it ;)

That makes no sense at all. They don't make Fenders at the New Hartford plant. The tooling is for making Guilds, Ovations, and Hammers. Unless they shipped some Fender tooling in to supplement the Hammer tooling. Annual Hammer production is typically very low.

That doesn't pass the sniff test. I do understand you are reporting what you were told so if something sounds personal, it isn't supposed to be.

Let's ignore GADs and hope no one is offended by that. The only Guilds being produced today are the acoustics being built in New Hartford. As of LMG 2010 nothing left that factory under the Fender brand name and the Hamer and Ovation production was being ramped down so that Guild production could increase. There was no discussion of bringing in any new Fender production. Furthermore there is a lead time required to adjust the tooling for a different instrument and that time is longer if that instrument has never been made there before.

It is true that the factory production has been limited. Fender has not released production figures but LTG members have speculated, with some basis in fact, that the NH factory is producing more than 500 guitars a year but less than 5000. (As a SWAG, consider 50 working weeks of 5 days each for 250 work days a year. Those estimates correspond to 2 guitars per day and 20 guitars per day. My guess is that circa LTG 2010 they were around 5 guitars per day and on their way to doubling that. YMMV). So your dealer is correct in that Guilds are in short supply and special orders are competing with regular production at the factory. But that has everything to do with ramping up slowly to maintain quality and nothing to do with resources being pulled to increase production for another brand.

I'll also note that in many ways Guild and Fender are two separate companies and one thing we have all learned is that when a Fender person talks about Guild the story is not the same as when the Guild person talks about Guild. So your dealer may have been talking to a Fender representative who just made something up to answer the question and keep the dealer happy.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Unless there was a mistake about what brand backlog they were catching up on, just to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. But I suspect in reality there's simply some emebllishment going on about the reason for the inability to obtain a case.

I just realized maybe his connection is talking to a Fender guy who's talking about GAD's and Fender acoustics? Are they made in the same place? One of the first things I noticed about recent Fender acoustics is that they'd converted to the Guild style flat heel on the neck. Didn't bother to look for the country of origin anywhere though.

Doc, don't take this wrong but to me that one hanging next to the door is an accident waiting to happen...Innocent party cheerfully opens door with arms full from shopping or whatever...gives it a little extra nudge with the hip....need I say more?
My response to Joe's question about are they in danger if they're on the wall?: Ya just NEVER know... admittedly I may be a little over-protective but then they deserve it, right? :D

Doc, just move it down and over so that the sound hole lines up with the door knob, and it should be fine.
The strings will bounce the door right back.

Yikes, I had not noticed that. I hope there's a door stop in case that waste basket gets moved.
